Over the last decade the field of otoneurology has seen significant advances in diagnostic tests, therapeutic options, and the description of new clinical entities. These developments have led to improvements in patient care, although at the same time they have brought increasing complexity to the discipline. This poses new challenges for clinicians who see patients with vestibular disorders, and it is here that the creation of diagnostic and therapeutic protocols or flow charts is a highly useful tool, not only for those new to this specialist field but also for experienced clinicians who wish to compare their approach with that of other groups.

This Guide to the Clinical Management of Common Otoneurological Problems is designed as an aid in the everyday clinical practice of all those specialists who regularly encounter patients with vertigo and balance problems. It is organized in such a way that readers can simply consult the diagnostic or therapeutic protocols, or explore in greater depth the various clinical conditions that, in our experience, are the most prevalent. We have also included chapters on clinical examination, including videos and explanatory diagrams, as we feel these may also be useful. Our aim throughout has been to provide an extensive and up-to-date review of each clinical condition or scenario, based always on our clinical practice and personal experience.
